President Aquino’s Arrival Statement, September 28, 2010

Arrival Statement
of
His Excellency BENIGNO S. AQUINO III
President of the Philippines
After his Working Visit to the United States of America, September 20-26, 2010
[September 28, 2010, Ninoy Aquino International Airport]

Vice President Jejomar Binay; Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa; other members of the Cabinet; the AFP Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Ricardo David and the major service commanders; fellow workers in government; mga minamahal kong kababayan: Magandang umaga po sa inyong lahat.
It’s good to be home.
In the last week, during our visit to the United States, we were able to send our message across: The Philippines is open for business.
-       Coca-Cola
-       Pfizer
-       AES
-       Hewlett-Packard
-       JP Morgan Chase
-       Luen Thai Holdings, Ltd.
-       Sutherland Global Services, Inc.
-       Century Properties and General Electric
-       Headstrong Corporation
-       SPi Global
-       Affinity Express
These meetings covered a wide range of sectors such as power generation, consumer products, business and knowledge process outsourcing, healthcare, and garments and leather goods.
We were able to secure a commitment of at least 43,650 new jobs over the next three years, including some 4,500 in construction-related jobs.
And because of the multiplier effect, we estimate 200,000 more jobs to benefit our countrymen.
AES will expand the capacity of the Masinloc power plant II by up to 660 megawatts, with a project cost of one billion dollars. This will lead to 1,500 jobs during the 3 to 4 year construction period and 100-150 FTEs for plant operations.
Coca-Cola will invest 1 billion dollars in their upgrading and replacement of equipment and creation of new products and processes.
The other companies are investing another 400 million dollars.
In short, our visit to the United States enabled us to generate 2.4 billion dollars in new investments.
Furthermore, we received an additional 434 million dollar grant from the Millennium Challenge Corporation to expand the coverage of existing social programs that have been performing outstandingly.
