The National Capital Region Police Office announced the traffic rerouting scheme for the culminating activities of the 25th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution on Friday, February 25.
NCRPO Chief PDir Nicanor A Bartolome said that the stretch of EDSA Northbound from the Ortigas Service Road until Santolan will be the center of celebration for the People Power anniversary and will be closed to traffic during particular activities. EDSA southbound will be totally open to traffic the whole day.
“Northbound stretch of EDSA from Ortigas to Santolan will be the center of celebration. We expect thirty to fifty thousand (30,000-50,000) people to converge in the area to celebrate in a fiesta atmosphere,” said Bartolome.
Bartolome said that total closure will be implemented in that stretch of EDSA from 6:00AM to 9:00AM on Friday during the flag raising ceremonies.
The inner two (2) lanes of EDSA will be reopened to traffic at 9:00 AM while the other three (3) lanes will be used for the People Power anniversary celebration.
Bartolome added that all lanes of the same stretch will be again closed to traffic at 3:00 PM during the reenactment of “Salubungan,” after which the inner two (2) lanes will be opened at 5:00 PM.
The stretch is again expected to be totally closed to traffic at 7:00 PM until the concert at the vicinity of the People Power Monument is over.
The NCRPO will assist the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and event organizers in implementing traffic rerouting schemes along key areas on Friday.
Bartolome also encouraged the public that will take part in the celebrations to not to bring bulky items or packages, as random inspections will be implemented in the different venues for security purposes.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to take alternate routes to avoid inconvenience. Traffic aides will be deployed and appropriate signage will be installed to guide the motoring public of the alternate routes.
