A May 16, 2011 press release by the Department of Labor and Employment
More job fairs, the schedules of which have been posted in the Phil-Jobnet system, await graduates and jobseekers this year, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Acting Secretary Danilo P. Cruz announced yesterday.
Cruz made the announcement following the recently successful nationwide Labor Day job and livelihood fairs during which 7,169 jobseekers were hired on the spot (HOTS), and after DOLE Secretary Rosalinda D. Baldoz set a target of one (1) million job vacancies to be posted by employers in the Phil-Jobnet, the government’s official job search and matching portal.
“We have more job fairs coming,” said Cruz, “so those who were not able to visit our 2011 Labor Day Job Fairs will still have the opportunity to grab their dream job in the incoming fairs.”
“The best way to successfully avail of these job opportunities in the job fairs is to hone up, upgrade, or retool on the skills necessary to qualify for in-demand occupations,” Cruz added.
Taking note of a report of Director Maria Criselda R. Sy of the DOLE’s Bureau of Local Employment (BLE), Cruz said the tentative job fair schedules cover the rest of May, and the 3rd and 4thquarters of the year, as posted by eight DOLE regional offices, namely Regions 2, 4A, 4B, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10.
The acting labor and employment chief said the conduct of job fairs on a year-round basis is in line with the overarching goal of President Benigno S. Aquino III, in his 22-point labor and employment agenda, to invest in the country’s top resource, its human resource, to make us more competitive and employable while promoting industrial peace based on social justice.
“We are pursuing this goal by addressing the labor-mismatch problem through better coordination between the government, employers, academe, and other sectors,” he said.
