Secretary assures right procurement process adopted to prevent purchase of substandard aircrafts
In line with the Department of Transportation and Communications’ directive to enhance Philippine Coast Guard’s security operations, Secretary Mar Roxas today said brand new helicopters will be acquired to help the Coast Guard effectively perform their new mandate.
Roxas, in a command briefing over the weekend, directed the Coast Guard to improve its current coastal security operations due to changing weather conditions.
Two of the seven helicopters slated for acquisition will be procured this year, while the rest will be purchased next year. Total cost of the helicopters will reach P2.8 billion.
Roxas said the government is seeking World Bank’s aid to procure the helicopters and ensure that only the right ones are purchased.
We can assure that the right procurement process of these helicopters will be followed to prevent second-hand aircrafts are purchased. This is to ensure we meet the configurations required by PCG in their rescue mission],” Roxas said.
