Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas said that the DOTC’s five-year infrastructure projects will create thousands of jobs in consonance with President Aquino’s government stimulus package, which aims to help Filipinos keep their jobs and reduce poverty.
In a speech delivered during the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s 37th Philippine Business Conference and Exposition Thursday at the Manila Hotel, Roxas said the DOTC’s plan to improve the country’s transport infrastructure will result in lower costs of moving people and goods throughout the archipelago.
“When completed, the transport infrastructure projects will spur jobs creation as a large number of direct jobs will be generated. That, along with indirect employment in the insurance, finance, packaging, travel and tourism services, and manufacturing sectors, which are all interlinked with the transport sector,” Roxas said.
“The President’s P72-billion stimulus package is designed to keep growth levels up by preserving investment momentum,” Roxas said. “The Department’s master plan will build the enduring impact of the stimulus package by clearing the arteries of commerce and mobility.”
Roxas again highlighted DOTC’s half-a-trillion 5-year plan in his presentation, stressing that the infrastructure projects will adhere to President Aquino’s 5Rs—the Right project, at the Right cost, at the Right quality, with the Right people, and Right on time.
