OPAPP: Secretary Deles assures Maguindanaoans of gov’t commitment to achieve peace through justice and truth

November 25, 2010 press release prepared by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process
Ampatuan, Magundanao – Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita Quintos-Deles on Tuesday assured Maguindanaoans that the government stays true to its commitment in seeking justice and truth to achieve peace in Mindanao.
Sa pamumuno ni P-Noy, hindi titigil ang ating pamahalaan hanggang sa makamit ang katotohanan at hustisya (Under the leadership of P-Noy, the government will not stop until we achieve truth and justice), ” Deles told Maguindanao government officials, leaders, and civilians in a dialogue during the commemoration program of the Maguindanao Massacre here where 57 civilians, 34 of which were journalists, perished.
Amidst the sorrow which gripped the Maguindanaoans in remembering those who perished in the massacre, Deles gave them the assurance that from the very beginning the present administration has always acknowledged the Moros and the other peoples of Mindanao.

She said that peace in Mindanao has been very high in the consciousness of President Aquino, stressing that before he became president-elect, he and then-Senator Mar Roxas published a full-page ad which they termed “A Social Contract with the Filipino People.”
Deles cited some provisions from the contract which focused on Mindanao peace efforts that seek a “broadly supported just peace” to uplift the region from years of neglect.
In response to Deles’ message, a Moro leader who was enheartened said, “Ako ay nabuhayan ng loob at lalong tumaba ang aking puso sapagkat ang kanilang talumpati ay puno ng pag-asa at puno ng kinabukasan (I feel very hopeful and happy because her [Deles’] speech is full of hope for the future).”
He added that the province of Maguindanao is now looking forward to carry its new face, repeatedly emphasizing their heed for “totoong kapayapaan” (genuine peace).
