Sen. Pia Cayetano Supports PNoy on RH bill

Senator Pia Cayetano
Senator Pia S. Cayetano today threw her support behind President Benigno Aquino III's stand favoring reproductive health legislation, even as she expressed renewed hope that the measure will be finally passed into law under his administration.

"I laud P-Noy for having the conviction and courage required of a true leader to support a measure that is vital to save the lives of women, the unborn and the newborn," said the lady senator, a member of the Senate minority.

Cayetano chairs the Senate Committee on Health and Demography which is hearing the chamber's version of the Reproductive Health Bill, Senate Bill No.2378, authored by Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago.
She also urged Filipinos to be open-minded and critical about the issue, and not to be easily swayed by misleading criticisms against the measure.

"Contrary to the misinformation campaign being spread by some, the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill pending in the Senate does not allow abortion, and will not force any contraceptive method on anyone," she stressed.
"[The Bill] will respect the moral convictions and religious beliefs of all, but at the same time, protect the unborn child by providing health services for the pregnant mother, and likewise save the lives of mother from dying at childbirth. Currently, 11 mothers die from giving birth daily, as per the latest estimates of the United Nations (UN)."
