P280 daily cash assistance each for victims of fish kill

A June 7, 2011 press release by the Department of Social Welfare and Development
The Department of Social Welfare and Development will provide cash-for-work for families affected by the recent fish kill.
As of June 6, 2011, the DSWD has released some P8 million for the implementation of cash-for-work in Region I. The DSWD National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) project showed that there are 2,860 affected fishermen from Anda and Bolinao, Pangasinan. They will be receiving P280.00 each per day for ten (10) days of community work or service such as sanitary disposal or burying of dead fish, coastal clean-up and repair of fish cages and related structures.
In Region IV-A, the DSWD is coordinating with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) to assess and plan urgent interventions to address the needs of the victims of fish kill in Talisay, Batangas.
The DSWD Rice Subsidy for Small Scale Farmers and Fisherfolks is also ongoing in the region to help the beneficiaries cope with the rising prices of fuel and commodities and to tide them over during the lean months.
Meanwhile, the Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) teams in Regions I and IV-A are assisting concerned local government units and other government agencies in addressing the fish kill incident.
