188 hired on the spot during the Labor Day job fair in Santiago City, Isabela

Labor day job fair
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office 2 Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez Jr. yesterday said in a radio interview that 188 out of the 828 registered applicants, or 23 percent, were hired on the spot during the Labor Day job fair held at the Santiago City Hall in Santiago City, Isabela.
“The percentage of the hired-on-the-spot applicants is way beyond the national target of 15 percent. It is the highest so far in the history of DOLE Region 2. We attribute this to our extensive information dissemination and career guidance. Most of the applicants were so much ready for the interview,” Atty. Rodriguez said.
In the 2011 Labor Day job fair, 102 out of the 921 applicants, or 11 percent, were hired on the spot.
There were 43 employers that took part in this year’s Labor Day job fair in the region, 14 of which were overseas recruitment agencies and 29 were local employers.
There were 158 hired-on-the-spot applicants for local employment in supermarkets, hotels, gaming establishments, motorcycles and farm equipment shops, sales, and manpower pooling services, among others.
On the other hand, there were 30 hired-on-the-spot applicants for overseas employment in hotels and restaurants, hospitals, factories, and household jobs.
The DOLE regional office conducted its Labor Day job fair in partnership with the city government of Santiago City and the Public Employment Service Offices of Isabela province.
The DOLE attached agencies—namely, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, National Labor Relations Commission, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, National Conciliation and Mediation Board, and Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards—also provided a services caravan during the event. Some partner agencies of the DOLE, such as the Social Security System, Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG, and PhilHealth, were likewise present to promote their programs and services to the job seekers.
