No wage increase yet in NCR: Bello

MANILA -- Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Monday said there are no supervening conditions yet in Metro Manila that would grant increase in the salary of workers.
He noted that it was based on the report from the National Capital Region (NCR) wage board.
“They (wage board) said they are just waiting for the anniversary. I told them, don’t wait for it anymore. They said they will just continue assessing the situation,” he said in an interview.
“So far, there is none (supervening conditions),” the DOLE chief added.
The law states that a salary adjustment can only be issued once a year.
It added that no petition for salary hike may be entertained within the 12-month period from effectivity of the order.
But, a wage increase within the period is allowed when there is a supervening condition.
The regional wage boards will determine supervenings condition such as extraordinary increase in prices of petroleum products and basic goods and services.
The last wage order issued in Metro Manila was on October 5, 2017. (PNA)
