Statement of Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda:
On the appointment of General Ricardo David (ret.) as Immigration Commissioner

[Delivered during a press briefing at Malacañang on March 9, 2011]

General Ricardo David (ret.) has accepted his appointment as the new Commissioner of Immigration. He replaces Acting Commissioner Roy Ledesma. He will assume his duties starting Monday. This comes after the President signified his intentions to retain Mr. David in the public service after his retirement as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Mr. David’s integrity and professionalism will be instrumental in the efforts of the Immigration authorities to cleanse its ranks and purge its services of past abuses and misuse of authority. The President is pleased that Mr. David is taking on these new challenges in the civilian sphere.
