MANILA, April 10 (PNA) -- President Benigno S. Aquino III will be the keynote speaker at the 10th Student Catholic Action of the Philippines (SCAP) National Leadership Conference to be held at St. Paul University in Manila on Monday.
The SCAP is a campus-based organization responsible for the formation and training of youth and students to become socially aware, efficient and effective, involved and committed Christian Leaders.
During the program, Bishop Rolando J. Tria Tirona, SCAP National Chaplain and Bishop of the Prelature of Infanta, Quezon, will brief the President and give an overview of the SCAP conference.
Founded on April 12, 1936 by Columbian Missionary Priest Fr. Edward McCarthy, the Student Catholic Association (SCA) was organized in the Philippines by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Episcopal Commission on Youth.
At present, SCAP has 22 archdioceses in Luzon, six in the Visayas and four in Mindanao.
The theme for this year’s conference, “Change: A Call to Every Juan,” is the SCAP response to the President’s call for everybody to contribute in nation building.
Attendees of this year’s leadership conference are students and teachers from 24 provinces, including the dioceses of Baguio, Bangued, Lingayen-Dagupan, Malolos, Iba (Zambales), Cabanatuan, Gumaca, Cubao, Manila, Caloocan, Pasig, Bacolod, Talibon, Kabankalan, Tagbilaran, Jaro (Iloilo), Antique, Butuan, Malaybalay (Bukidnon), Cagayan De Oro, Zamboanga, Davao, Tandag, Pagadian and the SCAP diamond jubilee volunteers.
