The Official New7Wonders of Nature campaign started in 2007, immediately after the successful campaign to elect the man-made Official New 7 Wonders of the World, in which more than 100 million votes were cast. Over 440 participants representing over 220 countries participated through a national qualification and race to become one of the Top 77, and then recommended by the Panel of Experts in the list of 28 Official Finalist Candidates.
The Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) in Palawan, Philippines is one of the 28 Finalists.
The Official New7Wonders of Nature is now in its final phase in which the wonders will be chosen by an estimated 1 billion votes. These are cast via the Internet, SMS (send “PPUR” to 2861), or international phone. Voting is open to both Filipinos and non-Filipinos here and abroad. The Official Declaration of the New7Wonders of Nature will be on November 11, 2011—11.11.11.
The primary aim of the project is for the PPUR to be recognized as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature through a massive global awareness and marketing campaign.
